Ergin İnan, Double Faces
Between January 14, 2012 - January 27, 2012
Hasan Bülent Kahraman curates “Double Faces” exhibition featuring Ergin İnan’s recent work. The exhibition can be visited between 14th and 27th of January at santralistanbul, Gallery 1. One may argue that “Double Faces” indicates a break point at İnan’s work in portraiture.
“Double Faces” indicates the ethical questioning İnan arrives after years of engagement with a painterly discovery in the notion of self. As Levinas puts forward ethics starts with looking at the face of the other. In this vein İnan’s “Double Faces” opens new horizons for a discussion of ethics in relation with face, otherness, and bipolar notions seemingly constitute our very own identity, looking similar from a distance yet radically different. These works also reveals a tragic response to what Derrida named as ‘violence of vision’. Works, as usual, are situated in the cross sections of Western and Eastern metaphysics with all references to a large and wide cultural background.
