TAMİRANE

Established as a cafe-cum-restaurant-cum-performance space at santralistanbul in 2008, Tamirane has flourished as a distinctive, avant-garde venue for ‘urban consumers’. In the days when santralistanbul was the city’s power generator, the hangar-style building served as a water treatment plant, before later becoming the power plant's maintenance workshop.

The design concept at Tamirane combines comfort and originality with the raw, industrial feel of the workshop. In its conversion, every effort was made to preserve the original fabric of the site: the ‘Drysdale Glasgow’ logo base of the huge machines, for example, was converted into a DJ table, and the power measuring devices into serving plants. Towering 12 m ceilings give an additional sense of space to the 300 m² venue, and the central hall seats 120 with standing room for another 400. There’s also a spacious 600 m² garden attached.

The menu at Tamirane draws heavily on Mediterranean cuisine, and traditional dishes are served with original flair and flavour. There’s a wide range of fare on offer with tempting alternatives for every hour of the day.

Another big menu item at Tamirane is music: ‘Morning Jazz Sessions’ follow brunch every Sunday, and during the week there’s live music in the form of ‘Weekday Sessions’. In 2011, Tamirane introduced a new live music series, ‘Morning Indie Sessions’ on Saturdays. Here, Istanbul bands and DJs perform alternative, contemporary indie music during the day. Once a month, the stage is given over to international performances by globally recognized bands and DJs of different genres. To date, Tamirane has hosted the likes of: Zero 7, WhoMadeWho, Jon Kennedy Live Band, The Real Tuesday Weld, Ursula Rucker, Kid Loco, The Herbaliser Band, Micatone, The Cinematic Orchestra, Prince Language, Blackjoy, Jazzanova Live featuring Paul Randolph, Nicola Conte Jazz Combo and Eivind Aarset Sonic Codex Quartet.

Tamirane is open every day between 09:30-24:00 through Monday-Thursday, 09:30-02:00 on Friday, 10:00-02:00 on Saturday and 10:00-21:00 on Sunday.
